We all have been there.
From not having any plans on a Friday or Saturday night at 5 pm, to getting a text saying, "Any plans? Let's get together, we'll be over in an hour!"
It’s not about being the perfect host, but being one that’s less stressed. In fact, this was a common thing in our household. We loved playing cards or watching football games at our house, but having people over … it was always a last-minute thing. That's why we developed our appetizer and dessert kits, for this exact reason.
Thankfully, most parties are planned, but what about those that are sprung on you at the last minute? Here's some ideas to be stress-free:
Stock Up on Essentials:
Snacks: Besides the Crackerology kits, having a variety of chips, popcorn, nuts, and pretzels on hand can save the day.
Fresh Veggies and Hummus: Pre-cut vegetables like carrots, celery, and bell peppers paired with store-bought hummus make for a healthy and quick appetizer.
Frozen Finger Foods: Keep a stash of frozen appetizers like mini quiches or spring rolls that you can quickly pop in the oven.
Fresh Berries and Whipped Cream: A bowl of mixed berries topped with a dollop of whipped cream is simple yet beautiful in clear glasses.
Beverages:
Have soft drinks (or cocktails & beer for adults) on hand. Simple recipes with every day items are great such as club sodas, cola, or juices. Be creative with your own & have some fun. Three ingredient recipes can be found here 3 Ingredient Cocktails
Instant Entertainment:
Games: Our go-to is also some kind of game. Whether it's cards, a board game, or karaoke, just be ready to get competitive. This always lightens the mood, and brings on the laughter.
Charades or Pictionary: These classic games require no setup and are guaranteed to bring out the laughter.
Quick Décor:
Candles and Fairy Lights: Dim the lights and use candles or fairy lights to create a cozy and festive ambiance.
Fresh Flowers: A simple bouquet of fresh flowers instantly brightens up the space.
Keep Your Space Tidy:
Have a designated space where you can quickly clear away clutter and make the area presentable.
Mindset Matters:
Embrace Imperfection: Remember, the goal is to have fun and connect with friends, not to achieve perfection.
Delegate: If your guests offer to bring something, accept their help! It takes some load off your shoulders.
Remember, the key is to create an enjoyable atmosphere where everyone can relax and have a good time. Being prepared with a few essentials and embracing the spontaneous nature of the event will make you a stress-free. Happy hosting! 🥂
